How do I start copying a trader?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

You can copy another investor using our CopyTrader™ system. The sections below cover how to start a copy and how to manage or stop one once it is active.

How do I start copying an investor?

  1. Choose the investor you want to copy using the Discover People tool.
  2. Click Copy.
  3. Enter the dollar value you wish to invest.
  4. Select your preferred Copy Stop Loss.
  5. Click Invest.

Each position in a copy is counted as a single investment and opens for you with the same proportional amount as a percentage of your allocated funds.

During market hours, positions are opened in your copy immediately. If you start copying an investor while the market is closed, this creates orders to open positions when the market reopens.

How do I add or remove funds from an active copy?

  1. Go to your Portfolio.
  2. Select the investor you are copying.
  3. Open the action menu and choose Addfunds or Removefunds.
  4. Enter the amount and confirm.

Removing funds proportionally closes positions in the copy and returns the corresponding cash to your Cash Available balance.

What happens to my positions if the market is closed when I stop copying?

If you choose Stop Copy and Close All while the market is closed, the positions will close as soon as the relevant market reopens. If you choose Stop Copy and Keep All, the positions move to your portfolio as manual trades immediately, regardless of market hours.
