What is the 1099-DA form?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
Not available in EN-US — showing English.
The 1099-DA form is a new IRS tax information form titled "Digital Asset Proceeds From Broker Transactions". The form is used to report taxable digital asset transactions, such as sales, exchanges, or disposals of cryptocurrencies and other digital assets.
This feature is not currently available in the etoro AI app. If you are using etoro AI, please use the etoro app or the web version of etoro for this action.
It summarizes gross proceeds from reportable transactions during the tax year and is used by customers when preparing their US tax return.
What transactions and information does the 1099-DA include?
Your 1099-DA generally includes every transaction in which you sold digital assets for fiat currency. There is no minimum value–every sale must be reported.
For each disposal, the form includes the following:
- name of the digital asset sold
- number of units
- sale date
- gross proceeds
- wallet address
- transaction ID
Non-taxable events (such as internal transfers or wallet movements) are generally not included.
Does etoro provide me with a 1099-DA?
Yes. We began providing the 1099-DA form to etoro clients in early 2026 for their 2025 tax filing.
Where can I download my 1099-DA?
- Go to Account Settings.
- On the web version: click ⚙️ Settings in the left-hand menu, then select Account.
- On the etoro mobile app: tap the menu icon at the top of the screen, then tap ⚙️ Settings and Account.
- Under Documents, click View next to 1099 Reports.
Are you reporting to the IRS, or do I need to report it myself?
We report your Form 1099-DA information directly to the IRS, as required by US tax regulations.
You are still responsible for reviewing the form and reporting the information accurately when filing your personal tax return.
Why is my 1099-DA different from my account statement?
Your Form 1099-DA is a tax document, not an account performance or activity statement. Differences can occur because:
- the Form 1099-DA reports taxable disposals only, not all transactions
- it shows gross proceeds, not profit or loss
- certain transfers, fees, or non-taxable movements may appear in your account statement but not on the Form 1099-DA
- timing and IRS reporting rules may differ from how transactions are displayed in your account
How can I access previous years' reports?
The 2025 tax year was the first year the 1099-DA form was issued.
For tax years before 2025, we provided a Crypto Tax Form instead. If you downloaded your crypto tax forms at the time, they should still be available in your Documents section.
