An unrealized gain is the theoretical profit of the position while it is still open.
A realized gain is the actual profit after it’s sold. Realized gains may be reinvested in other assets or withdrawn from your account. In your account, they’re part of your available cash.
Unrealized gains are currently invested. They’re part of your portfolio value.
