Why am I blocked from copying other traders?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
For regulatory reasons, we assess whether CopyTrader™ is a suitable feature for each of our clients. The information you provide in the ‘Experience and Objectives’ questionnaire helps us understand your situation and make this assessment.
You may not be able to open new copies if one of the scenarios below applies to you.
- The person you want to copy is not a Popular Investor: On etoro, you can only copy Popular Investors.
- You do not have enough financial knowledge and trading experience: Depending on the answers given in the questionnaire, we may prevent your account from copying, or only allow it to copy investors with low risk scores.
- Your equity is largely invested in copies: As part of the questionnaire, we ask how much you intend to invest via CopyTrader™. If you exceed this, we may limit the option to open new copies. This helps ensure that you are acting within the boundaries of what is suitable for your personal circumstances.
- The investor you want to copy is blocked from being copied: The limitation may not be on your end, but on the person you are trying to copy. There are many reasons why an investor may be blocked from being copied.
If we limit your account from copying, you won’t be able to open new copies or add funds to existing copies. However, existing copy positions will not be affected.
If your objectives or financial situation have changed, you can update your answers to the ‘Experience and Objectives’ questionnaire via your Verification Centre.
