We automatically sell all your expiring open positions on your behalf at or shortly before 3:30 pm ET on the day of their expiration. These orders are placed as market orders for execution at the best available price at that moment. Any proceeds from this closing will then be placed in your available balance the following trading day.
Of course, you can manually place a closing trade on your positions at any time before 3:30 pm on the day of its expiration.
You may be notified within the app and/or via email that your option is expiring to allow you time to manage the position. If you don’t sell the option yourself, we will attempt to sell it on your behalf. etoro Options reserves the right to sell out eligible contracts prior to the exercise date.
Although we execute this policy, it is done on a best efforts basis, there is no guarantee an option will be sold. Any positions resulting from the exercise or assignment of an unsold option are your responsibility. If this occurs we will contact you to assist with the next steps.
