Do I own my cryptoassets?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
When you buy a cryptoasset on etoro, you are investing in the underlying asset.
We purchase the tokens on your behalf and store them securely in an omnibus wallet. If you close a crypto position, we sell the tokens for you, and the invested amount +/- any profit or loss is credited to your investment account in fiat currency.
Where wallet services are supported, you can transfer eligible positions of supported crypto to the etoro crypto wallet to hold the tokens directly on the blockchain or send them to other addresses.

Where you don’t own the crypto

- short positions
- leveraged positions
- clients of etoro (UK) Ltd: positions opened before 6 January 2021 – since this date, new CFD crypto positions are not permitted according to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules
- clients of etoro AUS Capital Ltd: positions opened before 12 September 2021
- clients of etoro (Seychelles) Ltd: positions opened before 3 April 2022
