What do I purchase when I buy currencies on etoro?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
When you trade a currency pair on etoro, in what is commonly known as the forex market, you are not buying or selling the actual currencies. Instead, you are trading via a Contract for Difference (CFD).
Investors buy or short currency pairs to speculate on whether the value of one currency will rise or fall against another. For example, an investor expecting the euro to strengthen against the US dollar will buy the EUR/USD pair.
etoro does not offer any physical delivery of currencies. All forex trading on the platform is conducted through CFDs. As no currency conversion takes place, conversion fees do not apply. However, there is a spread fee specific to each currency pair.
