Do I own my stocks?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

When you buy a stock on the etoro investment platform, you are investing in the underlying asset.*

The stock is purchased in your name and held by etoro in a segregated omnibus account on your behalf. This applies whether you buy whole or fractional shares.

Owning stocks on etoro grants you shareholder benefits such as proxy voting and dividend payments.

If you wish to transfer your stock portfolio from etoro to an account with another broker, please contact etoro Customer Service for details.

Where you don’t own the stock

If you hold a CFD position on a stock, you don’t own the underlying asset. Instead, you have a contract with etoro that reflects its price movements. This applies in the following cases:

Should the company issue dividends, your balance will be updated according to the size and direction of your CFD position. However, holding a stock CFD does not grant voting rights.

CFD positions are marked 'CFD' in the portfolio.
