What is a commodity?

A commodity is a basic good used in commerce that is interchangeable with other goods of the same type. Commodities include physical substances like gold, oil, natural gas, and agricultural products.

Commodities are either for immediate delivery in spot trading or for delayed delivery when traded as futures contracts which have an expiry date. On etoro, commodities are traded as CFDs, so there is no delivery of the underlying asset. However, if the commodity is a futures contract, positions close automatically on the expiry date and any profit or loss is realised.
