What is a Tax Identification Number (TIN)?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is a number issued by government tax authorities to individuals and organisations to track tax obligations and payments.
A TIN can contain letters, digits, symbols, or a combination of all of these. Each country/jurisdiction defines its own TIN, which can be the National Insurance Number, Social Security Number, Employer Identification Number, or Personal Identification Number.
To find out what the valid TIN in your tax residence country is, check this table.
Where do I provide my TIN to etoro?
During the account verification process, you will see the Tax Identification Number screen to enter all your tax residencies.
Your country of residence appears as the tax residence country by default. Enter your TIN, and click on ‘Add additional tax residence country’ to add as many TINs as you need. You should provide the TIN for all of your tax residencies.
If you don’t have a TIN, you’ll need to provide us with a functional equivalent or a reason for not having one.
You can edit the TIN at any time using this link, or go to Settings, select VerificationCentre, then Tax ID.
If you are having trouble entering your TIN, open a ticket with our Customer Service Team, and we’ll gladly assist.
TIN-related restrictions are typically lifted within 5 business days of providing the TIN.
