The Stamp Duty Reserve Tax (SDRT) is a regulatory transaction tax levied by the UK government on UK-listed stocks.
Which positions are subject to SDRT on etoro?
When opening positions secured with the underlying asset on UK-listed stocks on the etoro platform, you will be subject to SDRT. This includes both manual trades and positions within copies and Smart Portfolios.
How much is the Stamp Duty Reserve Tax, and how is it calculated?
SDRT is currently 0.5% of the value of the stock purchase. On etoro, it is calculated based on the total value of your position at the time you open it. If the calculated tax is less than $0.01, it will not be applied.
Is Stamp Duty charged every time I buy and sell a stock?
No. Stamp duty is only levied when you open (buy) a position. You are not charged this tax when you close (sell) your position.
Do I have to pay Stamp Duty if I am not a resident of the UK?
Yes. SDRT is a tax on the asset itself (UK-listed stocks), not the person buying it. Therefore, all etoro clients–regardless of their country of residence–must pay this tax when purchasing UK stocks.
