Why can’t I open a position with my local currency account?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
If the option to open a trade using your local currency account balance is disabled or does not appear, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
1. Your app is outdated
Go to the App Store or Google Play Store on your mobile device and install the latest version of the etoro app.
2. You haven’t opened a local currency account.
Follow these steps to open a local currency account.
Once the account is set up and funded, you can use it to open trades.
3. Certain trades can only be opened using the available USD in your investment account
- leveraged and short positions
- CFD positions on assets not denominated in USD
CopyTrader and Smart Portfolio investments
4. Your USD balance is too low
If the asset price rises after the order is sent, funds from your USD account may be used to enable execution. If your USD balance isn’t sufficient, the trade will not open.
In that case, you may deposit funds into your USD account and place the order again.
5. You are part of etoro’s Pro Investor Program
Opening positions with the local currency account is currently not supported for Popular Investors. We expect to add this functionality soon.
If none of the above apply, contact etoro Customer Service for further assistance.
