Why do I get an error when making a payment to my local currency account?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

Errors when making a payment to your local currency account are usually caused by incorrect transfer details. Below are the correct payment methods and details for each supported currency.

GBP

  • GBP accounts accept local UK transfers using a sort code and account number.
  • Some banks require an 11-character BIC. If the one you entered is only 8 characters, add XXX to the end (e.g. CFTEMTM1XXX).
  • If your bank asks for a beneficiary country, select Malta, where etoro’s receiving bank is located.

EUR

  • EUR accounts support transfers within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) using IBAN and BIC details.
  • If your bank requires an 11-character BIC, add XXX to the end (e.g. CFTEMTM1XXX).
  • If your bank asks for a beneficiary country, select Malta, where etoro’s receiving bank is located.

DKK

  • DKK accounts support domestic transfers from a Danish bank account.
  • You must use a registration number (a 4-digit bank branch code) and an account number (up to 10 digits).

AUD

  • AUD accounts support local bank transfers using a BSB and account number.
  • Make sure the payee is registered correctly in your banking app before sending the payment.

If you entered your details correctly and still encounter an error, please contact your bank to confirm the transfer requirements or contact etoro Customer Service for further assistance.
