Do I pay a commission when trading stocks on etoro?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
On 11 August 2024, we introduced a new commission fee. You may now pay a fixed amount when you open or close a stock position.
How much is the commission fee?
The commission is either US $1 or $2 each time you open or close a position, depending on your country of residence and the exchange on which the stock is traded. Visit our fees page to check the amount.
Which positions does the commission fee apply to?
- Stock positions secured with the underlying asset.
- Currently, the fee only applies to select regions. Visit our fees page to check if it applies to your country of residence.
Which positions are exempt from the commission fee?
- Any stock positions opened before the commission fee is implemented in your region will not generate a commission when closed.
- CFD stock positions do not incur a fixed dollar commission. Instead, a 0.15% opening/closing spread is deducted from the available balance. For US-listed stocks and ETFs priced at $3 or less, a $0.02 per-share opening/closing spread is applied instead.
- Stocks within CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios.
Which actions incur the commission fee?
- Opening a position manually
- Opening a position via an out-of-hours order or limit order
- Closing a position manually
- Closing a position via Stop Loss or Take Profit
- Closing part of a position
- Closing a position opened through a recurring investment plan (the fee does not apply when opening).
How does the commission fee work?
The fee is debited from your available cash when opening a position. For example, if you invest $100 in a position and the commission to be paid is $1, your available cash will decrease by $101 ($100 for the trade and $1 as commission).
The same applies when closing a position. Let’s say you close a position worth $100; $99 will return to your available cash ($100 proceeds minus $1 commission).
Where can I see the commission fee?
The commission is included in the ‘Estimated Costs’ before you open or close a trade. To see a breakdown, hover over the information icon or tap it if using the app.
If you pay a commission fee, it is reflected in your portfolio's fees column and your account statement.
Important notes:
- If you stop copying a trader and choose to keep your copied positions, they convert into manual trades. When closed, a commission fee will be charged for each stock position.
- If you select ‘Close All’ to close all positions on a particular stock, a commission fee will be charged for each stock position when closed.
- Commission fees are always charged in US Dollars from the available cash balance, regardless of the stock's base currency.
Visit our fees page for complete information on all our fee types.
