How do I open a trade?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
Once you have found an instrument you would like to invest in using the Discover Page, search bar, your Watchlist, or an existing position in your Portfolio, follow these instructions to open a trade:
- Click Trade.
- Select Buy to open a buy position, or Short to open a short position, if applicable.
- Choose the trading currency (only for clients with local currency accounts on eligible assets)
- Enter the amount you wish to invest and set your preferences for Stop Loss, Take Profit, and leverage, if applicable.
- Choose the order type (Limit Order or Market Order).
- Press Buy or Short at the bottom of the screen.
An order to execute a trade is created and we will do our best to fulfil your order. During market hours, this is usually instant. If the market is closed, we will execute your trade the next time the market opens at the best price available at that time.
If you trade a stock or ETF for which 24/5 trading is supported, both market and limit orders may be executed during extended hours, even while the main exchanges are closed.
