How do I set an out-of-hours order?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
If the market you wish to invest in is closed, you can set an out-of-hours order to be executed at the best price available as soon as the market reopens.
To set an out-of-hours order:
- Find the instrument you would like to invest in using the Discover Page, search bar, your Watchlist, or an existing position in your Portfolio, then press Trade.
- Select Buy to open a long position or Short to open a short position, if applicable.
- Enter the amount to invest and other trading preferences, such as Stop Loss, Take Profit, and leverage, if applicable.
- Ensure the Order Type is set to ‘Market Order’.
- Press Buy or Short at the bottom of the screen. Your order will be executed as soon as the market opens, at the best price available.
Some stocks and ETFs are labelled 24/5 and can be traded from Monday at 04:00 to Friday at 20:00 Eastern Time (ET). If you place an order for a 24/5 asset outside of regular market hours (9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET), it may be executed during the extended trading sessions.
