What are Flare and Songbird tokens?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

Flare (FLR) is a blockchain network designed to enhance interoperability between different blockchains. It was created to integrate with and complement the XRP Ledger, allowing smart contract functionality for XRP assets.

Songbird (SGB) is its ‘canary network’, serving as a test environment for new features before they are launched on Flare.

Both Flare and Songbird tokens were distributed to eligible holders based on their XRP holdings, following a snapshot taken on 12 December 2020.

How did etoro handle the distributions?

Flare (FLR)

FLR tokens began to be distributed to eligible etoro clients in February 2023. The initial distribution represented 15% of the total FLR allocation, with the remaining 85% released in phases.

The Flare network distributed the remaining tokens over a 36-month period. At etoro, distribution of the remaining Flare tokens began in September 2023 and was carried out quarterly. The rewards accumulated during each quarter were divided among eligible Flare holders who had wrapped their tokens, with the service fee deducted from the total.

The distribution of the remaining FLR tokens to eligible etoro clients was completed in February 2026. No further FLR airdrop distributions are scheduled.

Clients were ineligible for the remaining 85% of FLR tokens if they:

  • opted out of receiving FLR tokens before 31 January 2023
  • opted out of wrapping FLR tokens before 6 February 2023
  • closed their FLR positions, automatically excluding them from future distributions
  • were not eligible to receive the token and were given the cash equivalent instead

See the Flare network’s website for an explanation of wrapping.

Songbird (SGB)

Flare announced that eligible FLR recipients would also qualify for SGB. The initial distribution took place in November 2022, followed by additional distributions in January 2023. The amount received was based on a ratio of 0.1511 SGB per 1 XRP held.

Due to regulatory restrictions, some clients received a cash equivalent instead of tokens, making them ineligible for further distributions.

Clients of etoro Germany were required to complete video identification to receive SGB tokens. Those who did not do this by 30 March 2023 could not claim their tokens.

No further Songbird distributions are scheduled.

Can I trade FLR and SGB on etoro?

Flare (FLR) is available to buy and sell on etoro.

Songbird (SGB) is not currently available to buy on etoro. If you have Songbird positions in your portfolio, you may hold or close them.
