What is a limit order?
Last updated: 12 August 2026
A limit order is a type of order that allows you to select the price that your trade will automatically be executed at.
Unlike a market order, which will be filled at the best available rate at the time (or when the market opens), limit orders are only executed if the selected price is reached.
A limit order will convert into a market order once the market rate reaches the price you selected.
A limit order may not be filled if the selected price is not traded in the market. However, it will be filled at any price that falls within the market range, which is an asset-specific range within which we allow an order to be filled.
Any cash allocated to a limit order is not available for trading. The limit order remains pending until it is executed or you decide to cancel it.
