What is the market range for a limit order?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

The market range defines the upper and lower prices within which your limit order can be filled and converted into a position.

Why is there a market range?

Under normal market conditions, not all rates are traded in the market.

When you set a limit order, you choose a price at which you want the order to be executed. However, this limit price may not be traded in the market.

To increase the chances of your desired position being created, we define a range within which we allow the order to be filled.

What are the benefits of the market range?

There are two main benefits of the market range:

  • It ensures that the order is filled at a suitable price, close to the one you have chosen.
  • It acts as a safety measure so that a trade does not open in cases where the price has moved sharply away from the limit price.

How does the market range work?

The market range starts at the limit price you had set and goes in the direction the market is moving from the market rate at the time of the order:

  • If the limit price is higher than the market rate at the time of the order, the range will be upwards.
  • If the limit price is lower than the market rate at the time of the order, the range will be downwards.

What is the market range per asset type?

The market range varies according to the asset type:

  • Stocks: The market range is typically 1% of the asset’s price. For stocks whose price is under $3, the market range may be set at up to 50% to increase the likelihood that the order will execute. Please consider this when placing orders for low-value stocks and ensure that you understand the potential risks involved.
  • ETFs / Commodities / Indices: The market range is 1% of the asset’s price.
  • Crypto: The market range is3% of the asset’s price.
  • Currencies: The market range is either 0.2%, 0.5% or 1% of the asset’s price, according to the currency pair:
