Why do some clients in Germany need to go through video or bank identification?

Due to German anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, some etoro clients in Germany are required to complete an additional verification step to access certain crypto features.
Do I need to go through this verification?
You need to complete Bank identification (Solaris) or Video identification (IDnow) if all of the following apply:
- You live in Germany.
- Your cryptoassets are held by Tangany.
- You have not completed bank or video identification yet, or your previous identification has expired.
If you are a new etoro client or haven’t traded crypto yet on etoro, this additional verification requirement does not apply to you.
Why is this additional verification required?
Some etoro clients own cryptoassets held by Tangany, a third-party provider regulated by BaFin, the German financial regulator. Section 1(3) of the German Money Laundering Act (GwG) requires financial institutions to have appropriate systems and methods in place to verify the identity of their customers.
As of 6 January 2026, clients can move crypto custody to etoro (Europe) Ltd, enabling access to the etoro crypto wallet and more cryptoassets. Learn more
