Why is the Trade button greyed out?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

There are various reasons why the ‘Trade’ button may be greyed out on a particular asset.

The asset is ‘close only’ - This means that it is possible to close existing positions, but not open new ones. Reasons for this setting include:

  • A corporate action is taking place on the asset: Assets undergoing corporate actions such as mergers or delistings are sometimes set to ‘close only’ in the run-up to or during the event.
  • Regulatory constraints in your region: Regulations can change over time, so if you own an asset that becomes restricted in your region, we try to ensure existing positions aren’t affected wherever possible. However, the asset will be set to ‘close only’ so new positions cannot be opened.
  • The asset is no longer offered on etoro: Sometimes our offering changes, and we decide to remove certain assets. In such cases, new positions cannot be opened.

Safety mechanisms - Trading can be temporarily limited by safety mechanisms that we have in place to protect the community from volatile market conditions.
