What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

When logging in to your etoro account, you will need to go through two-factor authentication (2FA). This means we verify your identity not only via your password, but also via a second authentication method.

2FA is available on the etoro app, the web version of etoro, and the Delta investment app.

How does 2FA work?

Once 2FA is activated, you will need to complete the additional security step when logging in from a new device or browser. On devices you use regularly, you may stay signed in for up to 30 days, or for as long as the device is recognised as trusted.

After entering your username and password, you will receive a verification code via one of these methods:

  • push notification (the default method for trusted devices)
  • text message (SMS)
  • phone call

Entering the correct code grants you access to your account.

What is the benefit of 2FA?

2FA provides significant extra protection beyond password authentication alone. Requiring two steps to access your account prevents it from being accessed by someone who is not the account holder.

If you are not receiving your verification code, try the following:

  • check that your phone number is correct in your Account Settings
  • ensure your device has a mobile signal and is not in flight mode
  • request the code to be sent via phone call instead of SMS

Some countries may not support SMS or phone call delivery of 2FA codes. In those cases, a push notification via the etoro app is the recommended authentication method.

Trusteddevices

A device is recognised as trusted for 45 days after you activate biometric authentication or verify 2FA via SMS or phone call. Any login to the etoro mobile app within that period extends the trusted status. Once the 45-day period expires, or if you log out, you will be prompted for 2FA again on that device.
