What are overnight fees?

Last updated: 12 August 2026

An overnight fee is a small payment that applies if you hold a CFD, Spot-Quoted Futures (SQF), or Stock Margin position overnight. Overnight fees are part of trading these products and are not unique to etoro.

Overnight fees reflect the forces of supply and demand driving the financial markets, covering costs associated with your position. They vary according to the value and direction (buy or short) of your position and are deducted from your available balance.

In some instances, you may receive an overnight refund, which means that your account is credited rather than debited.

Why am I being charged an overnight fee?

Overnight fees apply to any position that is open at 17:00 New York time. They cover the daily financing cost of holding the position. The fee applies to certain kinds of positions. Check the fees page for more information.

How do weekend fees work?

For most CFD assets, etoro applies a weekend overnight fee once a week, equal to three times the daily fee. This covers Saturday and Sunday, when the relevant markets are closed. The day on which the weekend fee is charged depends on the asset.

What about 24/7 commodities such as Oil 24/7?

Some commodities, including Oil 24/7 and Natural Gas 24/7, trade continuously through the weekend on dedicated 24/7 instruments. For these instruments, overnight fees are charged each calendar day rather than as a single bulk weekend charge.

For live rates, see the fees page.

Where can I see overnight fees on my account?

Every overnight fee or refund is listed:

  • on your Account Statement, under the Transactions tab
  • in your Portfolio: select the individual position to see the overnight fees paid or credited so far at the bottom of the pop-up.
